Are you expecting visitors for the Easter weekend? Where will you be taking them? Tell us and help to support Dorset’s Hidden Gems.
Do you know of a great walk along the cliffs but wonder if there is anywhere to eat nearby, or wonder what you could do if the weather is not spring like and glorious? Well, this problem will soon become a thing of the past thanks to a new project – Hidden Dorset.
Hiddendorset.org will be a web-based mine of information on everything that makes Dorset special – but we will be relying on you. Tell us about your secret treasures, those hidden gems that are off the main trail - the real Dorset, and help us to build the website.
After its launch in early summer, the website will include information on places to visit deep in the countryside or on the coast. You’ll be able to find details about little cafés tucked away where you could have lunch, great local artists or bands, or perhaps a tour of local cheese makers. You may want to search for a wonderful scenic walk, or the story behind a local legend. Alternatively, you may just want to find a shop that sells unusual or locally made goods, or someone who represents a dying craft – these are the real ‘Gems’ of Dorset.
Hiddendorset.org will link together all that is good in Dorset with details of opening times, maps and routes to get you to each destination. You’ll be able to design your Dorset tours with places and things to do that interest you and your family.
One of the aims of the website is to support and promote Dorset’s small businesses and by doing so maintain the richness and diversity of the County. Fanny Charles, Chairman of the Hidden Dorset Advisory Group commented “Some ‘Gems’ may be well-known, but others deserve to reach a much wider public. We want people to enjoy all of Dorset, its landscape, its coastline, its history, its food and its makers and artists.”
So, if you know of something special in Dorset, which is off the beaten track or a little bit different then why not nominate it as a ‘Hidden Gem’?
Share your Gems with us by emailing admin@hiddendorset.org, and help to make hiddendorset.org a treasure chest of the County’s Gems.
Why not pass on this email to ten of your friends, or your networks and let’s really get the buzz of Dorset going.
