About this site

East Dorset Arts Development are keen to seek ways of developing a stronger partnership between Schools and the Community and work closely with DepARTure The Agency for the Arts in Schools across Dorset. Although East Dorset have no remit to work within the Education system we would like to build relationships with Arts Teachers and Head Teachers. This page is available for East Dorset Schools to use to report on successful Arts project they have done with their young people particularly those involving the wider community. To submit a report or story please sent to the Arts Officer.

STOP PRESS! OPPORTUNITY FOR EAST DORSET AND CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOLS

Sting in the Tale: Memories of Dorset and World War 2 Education Pack Development Help us to develop an education resource and In return for your school commitment we can offer the following:

FREE performance for your school worth £750 • FREE Double CD of Memories of Dorset & WW2 • £100 towards expenses to allow teacher to attend twilight meetings • CPD for teachers involved • Excellent opportunity to raise the profile of your school • Trailblazing project with many possibilities for further development to work with local community, national organisations, etc. • An example of good practice that can be used as part of Artsmark application We would like to offer your school the exciting opportunity to help develop a unique cross-curricular resource for schools. As you might be aware the Arts Officer from East Dorset (in partnership with Christchurch BC, Help the Aged and DepARTure) have been working together to produce the Sting in the Tale storytelling festival. Part of last year’s celebration was the hugely successful ‘Memories of Dorset and World War 2’ project. Local professional storytellers worked with 9 Residential Homes and day care centres and their residents. By talking about their memories of living in Dorset during the war years a wealth of humorous, poignant and evocative stories were collected and recorded. The storytellers have used these stories as a script for a unique stage performance, which has been shown at several venues in Dorset and is to tour in the autumn of this year. Both the original memories and the performance have been expertly recorded and made into a double CD. We are now looking to offer this CD for sale to the public and as a useful resource in schools and community groups. In order to make this most helpful, we are developing an Education Pack with those that we hope to use it. We would like to work with a teacher from your school to come up with models and ideas that can be included in the pack. By trialing them with a class we will be able to find out which works and what inspires the most interesting outcomes. The teachers will be able to share how an education pack can support their work and help to deliver their curriculum aims. We envisage that 6 teachers from each school and their classes (of different age group from KS 2 and 3) will host the free performance, listen to the free CDs and explore ways of using this in the classroom to work with different subjects. We are appointing a Co-ordinator who will oversee the pack’s construction and would be a contact point for all teachers involved. Teachers will be asked to attend pre-planning meetings and an evaluation session. The actual data to be included can be sent from the schools to the Coordinator either through email or hard copy. There is only funding to take this production to six schools (preference may be given to schools who can accommodate another school from their locality) so if you are interested please get in touch to find out more and to sign up.
