Artz+ & Sportz+ 2007 - Programme of summer events for children with additional needs and their familiesThis fourth innovative programme will be offering an exciting blend of arts and sports events specially designed for children with additional needs. This year, throughout the summer holiday, across East Dorset, West Dorset and North Dorset, Artz+ & Sportz+ offers these children, their siblings and parents or carers the opportunity to explore their creativity and to try something different.Sportz+Striking/fielding and net games including badminton, volleyball, cricket and rounders. Date: Wedesday 23rd July Time: 10 - 12 noon Venue: Wyvern School, Sports Hall, Dorchester Rd, Weymouth DT3 5AL Age: 5 plus Session provided by WDDC`S Action Van Whether you see yourself as sporty or not, come along and get some exercise, improve your skills and have some fun.Little Mermaids and Sea MonstersDate: Thursday 24th July Time: 1- 3 p.m. Venue: The Hub, Brock Way, Verwood BH31 6WW With Artist Rosie Emmerson Take home your own unique lampshade for your bedroom light. Fashion mermaids, monsters and other creatures from the deep using coloured and sparkly things to stick on to a lampshade. If you have trouble cutting out there will be someone to help you. Lampshades will be provided. Dress for mess.Recycled RobotsDate: Monday 28th July Time: 10 - 12 noon Venue: Dorchester YMCA, Sawmills Lane DT1 2RZ Age: 5 PLUS 3D art with local artist Darrell Wakelam What kind of robot will you create - one that helps you with your school work or one which is out to get you? Let your imagination go futuristic as you transform household junk items into your kind of robot. Get into the groove learning how to play a variety of drums and other percussion instruments.All of MeDate: Friday 15th August Time: 1 - 3 p.m. Venue: Wyvern School, Dorchester Rd, Weymouth DT3 5AL Age: 5 plus With artist and art therapist Rose Verney Is your life made up of lots of different parts? Come along and create a collage which represents all of the different yous - you at home, you with your friends, you at school. There will beothers too. Using things you`ve brought with youand then adding scraps of fabric and other bits and bobs, creat an image which says it all. Dress for mess - bring along photos, tickets and other things you want in your picture.Adventures with AliceDate: Monday 18th August Time: 1- 3 p.m. Venue: Dorchester YMCA, Sawmills Lane, DT1 2RZ Age: 7 plus With the actors of DATco adn TOPS Enter the topsy turvy world of Wonderland. Through drama games and storytelling you`ll meet all sorts of crazy characters including the exceedingly rude Mad Hatter and the awfully sleepy Dormouse. Put on some fabulous costumes adn spend an afternoon in a world where nothing quite makes sense.Wacky WizardsDate: Thursday 21st August Time 1 - 3 p.m. Venue: Springhead Trust, Mill Street, Fontmell Magna, SP7 ONU Age: 5 plus 3D art with local artist Darrell Wakelam Have you ever wished you had a wizard under your command? Well now`s your chance. Create your own, totally individual 3D wizard portrait - and when it`s finished use it to cast some spells! Eat your heart out Harry Potter!! Dress for Mess feel free to bring along some small boxes, cardboard tubes and otehr scrap bits and pieces.Dr Who SoundscapeDate: Wednesday 27th August Time: 1- 3 p.m. Venue: Wyvern School staff room, Dorchester Rd, Weymouth DT3 5AL Age: 7 plus with community musician Ali Bullivent Together you`ll create a sc-fi universe inhabited by the monsters and aliens. Dr Who encounters on his travels through time. You`ll be using electronic sounds, xylophones and rhythm instruments on your journey. Let`s hope you make back to 2008.African BeatsDate: Thursday 28th August Time: 10 - 12 noon Venue: Springhead Trust, Mill Street, Fontmell Magna Age: 5 plus With Community Musician Noah Messomo Come along and be part of a vibrant session where you`ll be singing, moving and making music the African way. Discover your sense of rhythm trying out African beats on beautiful hand-crafted drums.
